Each episode starts off with an introduction that explains the purpose of the series. What`s New with Penn and Teller — Fool Us?

Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and at the Penn & Teller Theater at Las Vegas (season two onward). Each time a show is performed, if Penn & Teller cannot figure out how a trick was accomplished, the magician(s) who performed it get the Fool Us trophy and a five-star flight to Las Vegas to perform as the opening act in Penn & Teller`s show, which is also held at The Rio Hotel & Casino.

The seventh season began on October 10, 2021.

Teller notes that the doublespeak can help people learn new techniques without spoiling the trick. Should Penn & Teller are wrong or are not able to find out the method used to perform the trick, the magician is awarded a Fool Us trophy and the possibility of performing in one of Penn and Teller`s Las Vegas shows. A backstage judge, who is versed in the tricks of the magician`s trade and is intimately informed how the trick is performed before the performance, makes needed calls to determine if Penn & Teller were properly fooled. After each program, Penn & Teller perform the magic trick that they have created.

In the initial season, Jonathan Ross served as a temporary replacement for Penn and Teller`s hosting duties however, they returned for the following season.

It was filmed in Fountain Studios in London, England for its first season, before relocating to the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada for the second season, and later seasons.

The magicians presenting tricks in Penn & Teller “Fool Us” are generally skilled illusionists and sleight-of-hand artists. They usually make it more difficult to understand how their trick is done by performing the trick in complete darkness or creating distraction through conversation or sounds.

Renowned illusionist Jon Finch
noted in his book, Penn And Teller indeed have a friendly relationship with the magicians that perform on their show. Certain acts, like those of David Roth, have been invited to perform with Penn & Teller`s Las Vegas show.

In season four, the top ten magicians who were able to fool Penn and Teller were invited to appear on a special episode of Fool Us in which they each have the chance to perform their trick one more and attempt to fool Penn & Teller again for a further $20,000 prize. Performers are also asked to perform during an intermission during Penn Teller`s live Las Vegas show, where the audience members are not conscious of the illusion is being performed for them.

Raymond Teller remains taciturn throughout the course of the show, however they communicate with subtle gestures with each other. They are known to confer with magicians who are performing and ask for them to repeat specific actions or provide more information.

As of the year 2017, Penn and Teller have published books on deceit, created instructional videos on card technique and also performed a show titled Penn and Teller The We are Fooled. Us.
